Vastu Shastra gives priority to the five elements of nature (Pancha Bhootas) — Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space — and these elements are regarded as the main factors to influence the energy and harmony of the house. If the elements are correctly positioned, the house will be filled with good health, prosperity, and peace.

Vastu systematizes the compass into 16 different directions, where each direction corresponds to certain life's energies and deities. By proper setting of living spaces, doorways, and furniture according to these 16 directions, one can possibly gain positivity and get rid of hindrances.

Vastu recognizes 32 possible positions for home and building entrances. The location of the entrance is of key importance because it is the energy that flows into the house. If the entrance location is chosen according to Vastu, luck, wealth, and overall health can be greatly improved.

Purusha Mandala is a symbolic diagram of cosmic energy. In Vastu Shastra, it divides the space into parts of energy patterns. Each of the 45 devtas (deities) in Purusha Mandala controls a certain zone, which makes easier the decision on the positioning of rooms and buildings.
